Malaga is a municipality of Spain, capital of the Province of Malaga, in the autonomous community of Andalusia with a population of 578,460 in 2020. Today, the city is a cosmopolitan hub that draws visitors from all over the world with its stunning architecture, interesting museums, and unforgettable atmosphere. Thanks to its location along the sun-soaked coast of southern Spain, Malaga is also the bonafide capital of the Costa del Sol. We, however, were not able to experience any of this.
We docked in Malaga at 8.00 am on Wednesday 13 November and the rain bucketed down all day - stair rods came to mind with accompanying lightning and thunder! Very dramatic. Following the disastrous flooding in Valencia a few days previously, Malaga evacuated thousands as Spain issued flood alerts, the Mayor closed the city, and all the tours were cancelled. Di ventured out before the rain started and took a couple of photos, but apart from the Spanish flag flying in front of our ship, she found everything closed, although the same lovely buildings were in evidence, of course!
This was actually a longer day as we didn’t leave Malaga until 10.00 pm.
