From Monday 25 November until the morning of 30 November, we were at sea, en route for Jamestown on St Helena. Five days seemed a long time to be at sea, all alone in the middle of the vast Atlantic Ocean, but we were treated to enjoyable lectures on whales, the United Nations, evening entertainment which included a rendition of a very old favourite of mine which I persuaded the very special Italian singer, Antonio, to perform one evening.
During this period, the clocks went forward and there were days when it was quite rough with seas rising to three metres. The Azamara is only a small ship and we were travelling at 15 knots so I was forced to use a stick to counter the dips and rolls as I had no intention of causing anyone to pick me up off the floor!
